Don't miss internationally acclaimed video artist Marco Brambilla's extraordinary work, exclusively in Canberra

Heaven's Gate is the latest in internationally acclaimed video artist Marco Brambilla's Megaplex series of video collages. A lavish take on the silver screen spectacle of Hollywood dreams and excess, Heaven’s Gate presents an explosion of visuals engulfing viewers in a kaleidoscopic dreamscape.

The artwork, presented for the first time in Australia, takes the form of a dominant totem in the NFSA’s Gallery. It takes viewers on a journey through Dante’s seven levels of Purgatory, each depicted as a fantastical landscape composed of looping samples from Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Drawing on Hollywood dreams and excess – while referencing gaming, news, cinema, and reality TV – Heaven's Gate weaves these heterogenous images into a hyper-sensory parallel universe, celebrating collective storytelling consciousness and satirising saturated glamour.
