Marvellous Melbourne: Swanston and Collins Streets

BY JEMMA PIETRUS

Take a step back in time with this nostalgic 1910 clip that captures the city of Melbourne in a different light. It's part of the Marvellous Melbourne series - the oldest surviving complete documentary on the Victorian capital - made by production company Spencers Pictures.

Viewers on social media have enjoyed reminiscing and reflecting on the 1910 city streets commenting on the charm, the clothes, the trams (and the horses!) that grace the familiar roads. The clip includes iconic Melbourne sites like Flinders Street Station, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Town Hall but with unique characteristics of the era like ice delivery trucks and horse carriages along Swanston Street.
