On the night following Countdown’s final episode – the Countdown Music Video Awards, which aired on 19 July 1987 as an extended 90-minute special – Channel Nine’s Willesee program aired a warm tribute to the show’s legacy, hosted by Jana Wendt.

In this sequence, we see a clearly reflective Ian Meldrum, proud of the show’s achievements but also hesitant to talk up his own role and personal accomplishments.
