Carosello was a trailblazing Italian‑language music program that lit up Melbourne’s ATV0 (later Channel 10) on Sunday afternoons from 1967 to 1969 – more than a decade before SBS began multicultural broadcasting. It was produced by Franco Cozzo, the Brunswick and Footscray furniture entrepreneur who would later become a local icon thanks to his exuberant multilingual TV ads. This clip, from Carosello episode 8, captures host Colin McEwan introducing Sergio G and the Flippers' heartfelt performance of 'Basta Con La Luna (Enough With the Moon)', an Italian‑language reworking of 'House of the Rising Sun'.

As an early example of multicultural programming on Australian television, Carosello broke new ground. But the clip is also a rare surviving glimpse of Australian music TV from the late 1960s, an era from which far too little material survives. Sergio G and the Flippers were crowd‑pleasers with a devoted Melbourne fanbase – one that stretched beyond the Italian community – and they released multiple albums and singles throughout the 1960s.
