Peter Nicholson originally animated his cartoons by transforming them into puppets, for his television series 'Rubbery Figures', originally broadcast by the ABC, before joining the sketch comedy series 'Fast Forward'.
Though the cartoons were popular among viewers, the technical limitations of the medium, high costs and lengthy production schedule did limit Nicholson's creativity.
When the series was relaunched by 'The Australian' newspaper as an online series in 2004, Nicholson replaced the puppets with Flash animation. This allowed him greater creative license and produce cartoons in response to more recent news events.
In this cartoon 'Howard's Secret Election Video' Nicholson is parodying the notorious 1997 video of produced by Pauline Hanson, intended for release in the event of her assassination. However, Nicholson is also playing on the fact that Howard himself was not reelected at the Federal election, and was therefore 'free' to pursue his own interests, leaving Australians to deal with the problems he left on losing government.
