Decades before King Charles' ascendency to the throne, Prince Charles made an early visit to Australia in 1974, including this stop in Queensland.
This clip documents his attendance at a Coolangatta Beach surf carnival on 19 October 1974. Greeted like a hero, he steps out in a pastel blue safari suit and weaves his way through the crowd to take his seat and witness a parade of colourfully bathing-suited swimmers marching past.
