Dark City (1998) is a gothic, tech-noir film co-written and directed by Australian filmmaker Alex Proyas, also known for The Crow (1994), I, Robot (2004) and Gods of Egypt (2016). These plaster figurines represent (from left to right) a ‘Stranger’, John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) and Dr Daniel Schreber (Kiefer Sutherland) and were used by the special effects team during production. The figurines, crafted from plastic with hand-painted plaster faces, are remarkably detailed, and accurately capture the likenesses of the actors and the clothes worn in the film. They are a great example of the intricacy and attention to detail that went into the production design of the film.
