As well as providing experience for countless crew and behind-the-scenes craftspeople, Number 96 was a stepping stone for thousands of actors including many who went on to have high-profile screen careers. Another example is Ray Meagher (Home and Away's Alf Stewart), who played Fred Shrimpton in 4 episodes of Number 96 in 1977.
