When does a cult hit become mainstream? More than 15 years after the film’s release, Kodak Express parodied the ‘Time Warp’ from The Rocky Horror Picture Show for a 1991 commercial. The song’s refrain, ‘Let’s do the Time Warp again’, morphs into ‘Take it to Kodak Express’ as energetic extras in colourful costumes dance along, erasing any traces of the original’s subversive energy. It’s a good example of how advertising can co-opt popular culture to sell unrelated products.

After more than 50 years, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest-running theatrical release in history. It’s even outlasted the service being advertised here. ‘Perfect pictures ... in 60 minutes’ seems an antiquated notion for generations now used to the instant delivery of photographic images on their smartphones or digital cameras.
