Apple launched the iPod Nano in 2005. It was heralded as the world's pre-eminent portable digital media player. The third generation – as seen in this image – was known as a ‘Nano fatty’ for its wider design.

It was officially discontinued as an MP3 player in 2017, along with its slightly larger sibling, the iPod Shuffle. Both had been superseded by the all-conquering iPhone, which combined telephony, photography and entertainment in one device.
