  • This clip from a home movie filmed by Australian Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, on 28 February 1954, captures the solemnity of the occasion.

    The Shrine of Remembrance was built to commemorate those men and women of Victoria who served in the First World War. However, after the Second World War the north facing forecourt, World War II memorial and Eternal Flame were built to commemorate those who fought in the Second World War. Now inscriptions on this memorial commemorate those who served in the Korean War, Malayan Emergency, the Vietnam war and the Gulf War.
