This 1973 poster gives modern audiences an insight into how David Elfick’s massively popular surfing film Crystal Voyager was marketed at the time. The poster hints at the experimental tone of the movie, with imagery of flying boats in space, distorted text and a lone surfer with a breaking wave. The wave is also fitting because Crystal Voyager was written and narrated by legendary surfer, photographer and designer George Greenough and features Californian surfer Richie West and Australian world champion Nat Young.

The film ends with a trippy 24-minute sequence edited to Pink Floyd’s song ‘Echoes’. The footage features the inside of a curling wave in slow motion, filmed by Greenough with a camera in a special waterproof housing strapped to his back.
