Broadcast in 1979, this one-minute television advertisement for ‘Rocktober’, an annual month-long radio campaign hosted by 2SM, promoting the local rock scene with contests, prizes and freebies for their listeners.

The highpoint of ‘Rocktober’ was the ‘Concert of the Decade’, performed on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House, 4 November 1979, before an estimated 100,000 people. Featuring several of the most successful musical acts of the past decade, it was simulcast live on 2SM and Channel Nine. Looking back, radio personality The Hon Nick Jones opined that Rocktober was ‘perhaps the greatest radio promotion seen in this country’.
