This news report from October 2000 announces the beginning of broadcast by Talk Australia, Australia’s first 24-hour streaming radio service.
As was so often the case, the advertising prominently featured established names from the entertainment industry to showcase the range of content on offer, from serious news journalist Ian Leslie to entertainment anchor Lochie Daddo.
The report also refers to the recent demise of another start-up internet radio station, Big Fat Radio. Ironically Talk Australia would only last a few weeks before going bust, a perfect demonstration of the challenges and attrition rate during the early days of internet radio.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
