Recruitment process

We’re an Australian Public Service (APS) employer governed by the Public Service Act 1999. This means we recruit based on merit and transparency.

For most roles we will:

  1. Ask you to submit an application which includes your resume and a one-page pitch based on the role’s requirements.
  2. If you progress to the next stage, we'll invite you to attend an interview, either in person or online.
  3. We may then contact your references.

For some positions, we may ask you to complete a role-specific task.

If you want to apply for more than one role, you'll need to submit a separate application for each.

References

If you progress to the reference check stage, we'll ask you to submit at least 2 professional references.

Ideally, your referees will be:

  • your current direct manager
  • someone else who has supervised you in the last 5 years.

We understand you can't always provide a reference from your current employer. If this is your situation, email recruitment@nfsa.gov.au to discuss your options.

We don't accept personal references.

Recruitability scheme

If you apply under our Recruitability Scheme, your application will be considered against the inherent requirements of the role.

If you meet these, your application will progress to the next stage of the recruitment process.

Timing

From receiving applications to offering a position to the successful applicant, usually takes between 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the role.

We do our best to move through the process as quickly as possible and to keep you informed at each stage.

We aim to contact both successful and unsuccessful applicants promptly.

For an update on your application’s progress you can email recruitment@nfsa.gov.au.
