The first known Australian to make a commercially released recording, the long forgotten Syria Lamonte, is now preserved by the NFSA thanks to the kind donation of an 1898 recording acquired by Roger Neill.
The NFSA has released rare footage of one of Australian Rules football’s greatest players, Essendon forward John Coleman. Film curator Simon Smith made the discovery.
In partnership with the St Kilda Film Festival, the NFSA presents six of Ernest Singer’s 16mm home movies from the 1950s, projected on the big screen for the very first time.
Thai Film Archivist Kedsuda Jina recently visited the NFSA to learn about our preservation work. She told Clair Hurford that her country's heritage is in danger because of a lack of interest from the public.
The NFSA joined with nine other organisations to produce Australia’s first online Encyclopedia of women leaders including women who have made notable contributions to television.
