Vote for us at Museum Dance Off 2018

BY MIGUEL GONZALEZ

A few years ago an American museum worker, Maggie Guzowski, started a blog to tell the world about life When You Work at a Museum. This project soon became something bigger than Maggie could have ever imagined!

In 2014 When You Work at a Museum spawned an international competition, Museum Dance Off, in which museums, galleries, libraries and archives around the world showcase their facilities and work – as well as their best dance moves.

This year the NFSA decided to join the Museum Dance Off for the first time ever. We saw it as a great opportunity to bring staff together in a creative challenge, as well as to show the public our facilities and the wide range of work that our experts do behind the scenes.

We wanted to choose an Australian song, and it didn't take long before we turned to Kylie Minogue for inspiration. It was soon obvious that there was one song among the pop diva's many hits that most related to our mission to collect, preserve and share Australia's audiovisual history. It was time to 'Step Back In Time'!

We're very proud of the resulting video, and we hope you will enjoy it too. In fact, we hope that you will enjoy it so much that you will vote for us in the Museum Dance Off competition.

How to vote

You can watch the clip above, but online voting is only open for 24 hours from Thursday 19 April at 8 pm to Friday 20 April at 7:59 pm (Australian Eastern Time) at the When You Work at a Museum website.

The winner of the first round will go to the Australian final on 7 May, and a national winner will then participate in the international ‘Thunderdome’ final on 14 May.

So please, vote for us! Share our Museum Dance Off video on social media, using the hashtag #MDO5. If you follow our social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube), we will remind our followers to vote on the day.
