Did you hear the good news? Our building is once again open to the public!

We're excited to have reopened our doors in Canberra on 1 August. It simply wasn't the same without having visitors attending our screenings and events, exploring our heritage building and taking a break in our cafe.

We are once again open every day (except 25 December and 1 January), 10am to 4pm. We invite you to plan your visit so you'll know exactly what is happening on the day you're coming to the NFSA, as well as the measures we've taken to keep everyone safe.

One of the attractions you'll be able to see is our new public space, Hive. You may have seen it in the news (on WIN News or in The Canberra Times or The Sydney Morning Herald), or maybe you saw this this sneak peek on our Facebook page. Make sure to put visiting this free interactive experience in your calendar.

A special party

Our very first event was a sold out Bluey Pyjama Party. Some of the youngest NFSA visitors wore their finest PJs to join in the fun; check out some of the best moments in this gallery:

The Bluey event was extra special for one of our young patrons. She was unable to celebrate her birthday with her friends back in May, but with reduced restrictions she decided to turn our Bluey party into her own belated birthday celebration.

She was joined by a group of friends bringing presents, and even received a special gift from the NFSA: the Bluey plush doll seen in the gallery above. Happy birthday!

What's next?

On reopening week we celebrated two additional birthdays in a single event. We marked Federico Fellini's 100th, and Arc cinema's 13th, with a sold-out session of La Strada.

Our program of events for August and September 2020 is now online. If you're in Canberra, you won't want to miss a 35mm session of Metropolis, a chance to sing along to 'The Trolley Song' or to dress up and attend a Twisted Prom Night. And there's more!
