Big Screen trailer

With over 60 clips from Australian films

We’ve just finished editing the new Big Screen touring program trailer and it still moves me even though I’ve sat through it probably a few hundred times. Trailer producer, director and editor Stephen Robinson has created an evocative montage of over 60 clips from new and classic Australian films, weaving together moments of love, laughter and loss … and trains. For some reason we picked up a running theme with trains. Has anyone done a thesis on this?

The new trailer features iconic Australian films like Rabbit-Proof Fence, The Castle, Gallipoli, Moulin Rouge!, The Man from Snowy River and Storm Boy but also recent award winners like Samson and Delilah and Balibo.

Try playing a trivia game with the trailer – ’name that film‘. Can you name all 49 titles? Spot the young Heath Ledger and Sam Worthington? It’s also a great way to choose your next Saturday night DVD from the local ‘video’ shop: ’I haven’t seen that for ages’.

It never fails to give me goosebumps when I watch it and I always love to see and hear the audience’s reactions in cinemas – the laughs and the ’mmmmmm’s often come in different places and it usually sparks fierce debates in the foyer over popcorn about Australia’s best films.
