Subject explores the life-altering experience of sharing your life on screen by talking to key participants in acclaimed documentaries The Staircase (2004), Hoop Dreams (1994), The Wolfpack (2015), Capturing the Friedmans (2003) and The Square (2013)

These documentary stars reveal the highs and lows of their experiences as well as the everyday realities of having their lives put under a microscope.

Also featuring commentary from such influential names in the doco world as Kirsten Johnson, Sam Pollard, Thom Powers and Sonya Childress, Subject unpacks vital issues around ethics and responsibility in documentary filmmaking.

As tens of millions of people consume documentaries in an unprecedented golden era for the form, Subject urges audiences to consider the profound impact these films can have on their participants.

Following the screening, co-producer Margie Ratliff will join us for a Q&A session.

‘Through Subject, you find yourself newly invested not just in the original films, but in the documentary process itself’ – The Hollywood Reporter
