Short films representing a range of responses to the Vietnam War, including a visit of Jean-Luc Godard to NYU. NFSA 16mm prints.
Hearts And Minds (Bruce Petty 1967, 22mins, Australia): Petty's first film, comprising footage he shot on a trip to Vietnam combined with animation of some of his newspaper cartoons.
Two American Audiences (D.A Pennebaker, 1968, 40mins, USA): A filmed discussion between French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard and New York University graduate students on filmmaking and politics, intercut with scenes from Godard's La Chinoise (1967).
79 Springs of Ho Chi Minh (Santiago Alvarez, 1969,19mins, Cuba): A lyrical tribute to Ho Chi Minh made shortly after his death. Alvarez uses optical printing, images in negative and music ranging from Mozart to a Vietnamese band playing the ‘Internationale’ in an innovative blend of actuality footage and experimental techniques.
