Digitally restored in 2K, this is the story of the very first Mardi Gras from those who were there on 24 June 1978 - now proudly dubbed ‘the ‘78ers’. The film documents the police brutality and political action of the night and weaves it into a history of both persecution and bravery.

Special guest Graham Willett from the University of Melbourne will be introducing the screening. Graham is an historian of queer Australia whose works include Living Out Loud: A History of Gay and Lesbian Activism in Australia and Serving in Silence, an ARC-funded project on Australian LGBTIQ military history.

The NFSA's foyer bar will be open from 6.00pm and stay open after the screening for you to share some opening night mirth and memories.
