NFSA Live: The Weather Diaries + Q&A
Next in our series of NFSA Live events, we are proud to present a free online screening of the thought-provoking new documentary The Weather Diaries, fresh from its world premiere at the online Sydney Film Festival. The film will be followed by a live-streamed Q&A session with director Kathy Drayton and Imogen Jones (AKA Lupa J).
Filmed over six years, The Weather Diaries reaches its climax in 2020, as temperatures rise, bushfires rage, and the flying foxes that usually soar over Sydney die in record numbers.
Sydney filmmaker Kathy Drayton’s film chronicles two simultaneous histories: the darkly cataclysmic effects of climate change, and the development of Drayton’s daughter from child to adulthood.
Ruminating on our failure to understand the effects of climate change and the implications for the future generation, The Weather Diaries is a story both personal and political.
‘The film balances, in a beautiful poetic way, optimism and pessimism, fear and hope, melancholia and illumination’ - Adrian Martin, Screenhub
