My Best Friend's Wedding – 35mm

2 April
Location informationArc Cinema
Event cost$12 / $10

Childhood friends Jules (Julia Roberts) and Michael (Dermot Mulroney) had a deal to marry each other if they were still single at age 28. Now, 4 days before her 28th birthday, Michael announces that he's marrying a gorgeous 20-year-old named Kimmy (Cameron Diaz).

Suddenly realising that she's in love with him, Jules vows to stop the wedding at all costs. However, when Kimmy asks Jules to be her maid of honour, things start to get a little complicated.

Directed by Australian PJ Hogan (Muriel’s Wedding), and co-starring Rupert Everett, My Best Friend’s Wedding showcases Rachel Griffiths’ comic skills as the gossiping twin and bridesmaid Samantha.

‘Every once in a long while, along comes a refreshing change like My Best Friend's Wedding, a movie whose appeal rests largely on its knack for defying our expectations by riffing off, even undermining, a familiar genre’ - The Globe and Mail

Presented on a 35mm film print from the NFSA collection.
