Metropolis - SOLD OUT
THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT
One of the most influential German films, Lang’s sci-fi Metropolis presents a highly stylised futuristic city where a beautiful and cultured utopia exists above a bleak underworld populated by mistreated workers.
When the privileged youth Freder (Gustav Fröhlich) discovers the grim scene under the city, he becomes intent on helping the workers.
He befriends the rebellious teacher Maria (Brigitte Helm), but this puts him at odds with his authoritative father, leading to greater conflict.
We are thrilled to be presenting this classic, which was gorgeously restored in 2010, on 35mm along with the original Gottfried Huppertz score. A must on the big screen!
‘Is Fritz Lang's 1927 epic Metropolis the most influential film ever? It certainly spawned the cinema of futurism and, watching it today, it's uncanny to see how many shadows of cinema yet to come it already contains’ - The Independent (UK)
