Born on Murray Island in the Torres Strait, Eddie Koiki Mabo and his fellow islanders changed the Australian political and legal landscape when the High Court granted them ‘native title’ to three islands in the Strait, six months after Mabo’s death in 1992. Trevor Graham’s camera had already followed Mabo in his 1989 documentary Land Bilong Islanders, but he was moved to tell more of Eddie’s story following his death. With Film Australia, Graham produced the feature documentary Mabo- Life of an Island Man. He joins us to discuss his film.

Q&A with director Trevor Graham.

Please note: Gail Mabo will be unable to attend this event as announced; we apologise for the inconvenience.

Presented by the NFSA in association with the National Museum of Australia.
