The Hurt Locker – 35mm
Following the death of their well-respected Staff Sergeant in Iraq, Sergeant JT Sanborn (Anthony Mackie) and Specialist Owen Eldridge (Brian Geraghty) find their Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit saddled with a very different team leader.
Staff Sergeant William James (Jeremy Renner) is an inveterate risk-taker who seems to thrive in war, but there's no denying his gift for defusing bombs.
Considered one of the best dramatisations of the Iraq War, The Hurt Locker pulls the audience into scenes of tense suspense and adrenaline-fuelled action, while showing the psychological reactions of the men to the stress of combat.
The Hurt Locker won 6 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director, making Bigelow the first woman to ever win the latter category.
‘An important, intense, nailbiting experience – really quite unforgettable’ – David Stratton, At the Movies
