Human Rights Arts & Film Festival 2019
The Human Rights Arts & Film Festival (HRAFF) has launched its 2019 Canberra program showcasing five urgent human rights films.
Opening night in Canberra is headlined by Australian film Stop the Boats, directed by Simon Kurian. Stop the Boats documents how Australia used a three-word slogan to demonise people seeking asylum, fleeing war and persecution. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Simon Kurian and Behrouz Boochani (live from Manus via Skype).
Other leading picks from the festival are:
Still Recording, a documentation of the Syrian civil insurgency crafted from 450 hours of footage and smuggled out of Syria
Femme Shorts, highlighting a variety of femme voices and stories
The Panama Papers, about the biggest global corruption scandal in history and
Giant Little Ones, an exploration of identity and the importance of love without labels.
