When Jim Macauley (Peter Finch) returns to Sydney, he finds his wife (Elizabeth Sellars) living with another man (George Rose). Taking his young daughter Buster (Dana Wilson) with him, he returns to his wandering rural life, travelling across western NSW in search of work.

Now taking responsibility for a child he hardly knows (his ‘shiralee’), father and daughter must bond and learn to trust one another.

Peter Finch is perfectly cast as the dour itinerant worker drifting from job to job, with Buster played by the delightful and irrepressible Dana Wilson.

‘A captivating double-act between Finch and the bright-as-a-button Dana Wilson as each of them realises they have a lot to learn. The location photography is incredible’ –
