Men's hats are light-heartedly mocked in this newsreel segment from 1937.

Skiers have gathered to compete at Mt Townsend, including the New Zealand team who perform a haka on skis! Not an easy feat. The ski jumping style demonstrates the Kongsberger technique where the upper body is bent at the hip and the arms are waved or 'flapped' around to extend the skier's jump. It was a technique developed in Norway after the First World War. Sometimes the arms are kept against the side of the body. It has since been superceded.
