An opera in two acts by Richard Meale to a libretto by David Malouf. Based on the novel by Patrick White. The Australian Opera Production, 1986-7.

Opening at the Adelaide Festival in March 1986, this production of The Australian Opera subsequently appeared in Melbourne and Sydney. With baritone Geoffrey Chard and soprano Marilyn Richardson, Sharman’s stage production appears on the cinema
screen for the very first time.
