A rare opportunity to view with Curators collection items relating to
Patrick White’s novel VOSS and its translation into film and the opera
stage. Featuring the collections of Patrick White, composer Richard
Meale, The Australian Opera’s Moffatt Oxenbould and others.

White presented many challenges to composers wanting to set his
texts. This forum/recital features music by Henderson, Conyngham
and Vine, as well as the world premiere of two new Sculthorpe
settings of unpublished White texts and his Port Essington. Rebecca
Collins, soprano, with musicians from the ANU School of Music.

Voss - The Journey from Novel to Opera

Join Moffatt Oxenbould, Jim Sharman, and others as they reflect
on the process of recreating White’s great novel for the opera
stage. Featuring the music and memories of composer Richard
Meale and performers from the ANU School of Music.

“All Hail to Herr Leichhardt!” in association with the Canberra International Music Festival, join Ginger Catering at the Old Parliament House on Friday 15 th May for a dinner which celebrate s the second journey of Ludwig Leichhardt from Sydney into the harsh outback.
As part of the Voss Journey, director of Ginger Catering, Janet Jeffs create s a menu that encompass es the images of Leichhardt’s ‘Overland Expedition in Australia ’ and his journey across Australia ’s landscape. W ith narrative from Leichhardt’s journal , the menu helps to bring alive the flavours created by our native land, reminiscent of the journey.
Host Barry Jones will be joined by performers including Alan Hicks, piano, soprano Louise Page and other artists from ANU School of Music.
