Glorious Bunuel Poster donated to the NFSA

Film Poster for Buñuels film Tristana donated to NFSA
Australian National University Emeritus Senior Fellow David Blest was very pleased recently to find that the NFSA was screening a season of Luis Bunuel films in the Arc Cinema. The films brought back many fond memories and led to his donating a valuable film poster to the NFSA.
Back in the early 1960s David Blest was a Junior Lecturer in Zoology at University College, London. He became friends with Peter Strausfeld, an artist and designer, who used to design film posters for George Hoellering who ran the Academy Cinemas in Oxford Street.
At University College, David also supervised Peter Strausfeld's son, Nicholas, an honours student in Zoology. Nicholas is now a Professor at the University of Arizona and on a trip to Australia a number of years ago presented David with a beautiful poster designed by his father.
The large poster is of Luis Bunuel's film Tristana, which was screened at the Academy Cinemas. The NFSA was delighted when David contacted us to say that not only would he be coming to all the Bunuel screenings but that he would also like to donate the poster to the national collection.
The poster is now on display in the NFSA foyer in Canberra, attracting much attention.
