The third episode of the six part series ‘Celebrate 50 Years of TV’ produced in 2006. This episode features Australian television in the 1960s. It briefly highlights major national and international events of the decade as they were represented on the television in news and current affairs programs, and in variety, music, children’s and drama shows. Includes a 17 second segment on the 1967 Referendum which opens with archival footage of the time showing Pastor Doug Nicholls’ announcement ‘We’re appealing to the public to support us in a “Yes” vote’ and vision of public rallies and prominently displayed banners and posters to encourage public support. The voiceover commentary states that the 1967 Referendum was a ‘moral high point in Australian politics’ that was ‘backed by all parties’ and supported by ‘over 90% of Australians’, and that it was a ‘watershed in the battle for equality for Aboriginal Australians.’ -- General note: Produced by Nine Films and Television and issued through the ‘Herald Sun’ newspaper to celebrate the 50th anniversary of television in Australia.
