Drop in to explore a wealth of Australian and international screen culture history, spanning film, television, digital culture, recorded sound and video art.
The Australian Mediatheque is a doorway directly into the nation's audiovisual collections - the richly diverse national collection held by the NFSA, and ACMI's collection which explores the moving image in all its forms. The Australian Mediatheque also showcases work from content partners, including Australia's television networks, screen culture bodies and film schools.
For creators, curators, programmers and researchers
The NFSA offers its regular expert advice and assistance to researchers and industry practitioners seeking to access the national collection for new productions, exhibition, and research. ACMI staff provide guidance to the ACMI collection and technical assistance with all available formats.
These specialised collection access services continue to be available by appointment from Monday to Friday. A special viewing room, designed to meet your needs, is available for auditioning 16mm and 35mm film, analogue video formats, recorded sound and other collection material.
Open to all
Admission is free. Proof of age may be required, as only age-appropriate material is made available to younger users. The Australian Mediatheque is suitable for visitors with special access requirements. There are several dedicated viewing booths that are fully wheelchair accessible.
